FINDING YOUR TRUE IDENTITY

No one in this world is powerful enough to seal you with an identity except the one who has created you. It is not your fears, not your failures, not your mistakes, not your affections, not your inclinations, not your feelings, not your struggles, not your experiences, whether good or bad and not even your successes. YOU ARE WHO GOD SAYS YOU ARE.

Anything that contradicts who you are as a child of God is anti-God.

In Christ, all false identities lose power and significance over your life. You are not a liar, nor are you fearful, stupid, and not good enough, a victim, the girl that had the abortion, the guy that is addicted to pornography, a widow/widower, a divorcee, the unforgiving person, etc. This list is nowhere near the mention of all the false and negative identities many people believe about themselves. So, the greatest thing you can do for yourself is to believe that YOU ARE ONLY WHO GOD SAYS YOU ARE, i.e., you are his beloved child.

God’s actual presence lives inside of you.

The Father has loved us so much that we are called children of God. And we really are his children.

1 John 3:1

I remember when I first became a believer, I had so many questions about what being born again in Christ meant. I always asked so many questions about this new life.  needed to know the difference between my old life and this new life I was now living. A friend of mine recommended a book by Jerry Bridges titled “Who am I”. I remember reading it and just being amazed by all the realities that I have been brought into.

You are who God created you to be. There is nothing wrong with you.

It was because I struggled with my identity until I came to know the Lord. Then, it’s as if a great murky fog was wiped clear over the mirror, I have been using to see myself through. The day that I realized that I didn’t have to try to be all these many things to be accepted greatly freed me so much. I now sigh a sigh of relief and just boldly proclaim that I am a child of God and he lives within me. That’s who I am, that who I will always be, and because of this, I have many privileges, some of which are further discussed in this book.

In the next few weeks, by the grace of God, we will look at every one of these realities that we have as children of God. I pray that you are blessed and you begin to walk in the trueness of who God says you are.

1.    I am born of God.

2.    I am completely forgiven.

3.    I am justified and righteous.

4.    I am chosen and fully accepted.

5.    I am victorious over the devil.

6.    I am hidden with Christ in God.

7.    I have a spirit of power, love, and sound mind.

8.    I am free from condemnation and guilt.

9.    I am strengthened by faith.

10.  I am new creation.
